Matte vs Standard ABS Pro Finish

The only real difference between this and standard ABS Pro is the surface. Matte hides layer lines and cuts glare, which matters for parts people will actually look at. If gloss or a paintable smooth surface matters more than hiding layer lines, standard ABS Pro is the better pick.

Printer Compatibility and Settings

Our 1.75mm ABS Matte works best on enclosed FDM printers, including Bambu Lab, Prusa, Creality and other professional systems. Use a heated bed set between 90°C and 110°C, and keep the enclosure closed to maintain a stable ambient temperature, the same practice as standard ABS.

Is ABS Matte the same material as ABS Pro?

Almost. ABS Matte uses the same upgraded ABS formulation, so you get the same toughness, dimensional stability and heat resistance, with a low gloss surface instead of the standard gloss one. The one practical difference is that it runs hotter: 250 to 270°C at the nozzle, against 230 to 250°C for ABS Pro.

Is ABS Matte weaker than glossy ABS?

No. The matte surface is a finish, not a different material, so impact resistance, dimensional stability and heat resistance are unchanged from our standard ABS Pro. You are choosing how the part looks, not trading away how it performs.

Does ABS Matte hide layer lines?

Yes, and that is the main reason to choose it. A gloss surface reflects light in a way that draws the eye straight to every layer boundary. The matte surface scatters that light instead, so layer lines are far less visible on a finished part with no sanding, filling or post-processing.

What temperature does ABS Matte print at?

Nozzle 250 to 270°C, bed 80 to 100°C, with the part cooling fan off or very low, printed in an enclosure. That nozzle range runs hotter than ABS Pro, so if you are switching between the two on the same printer, raise the temperature rather than reusing your ABS Pro profile unchanged.

Does ABS Matte need a hardened nozzle?

No. Matte filaments are often assumed to be abrasive because of the additives used to create the finish, but ABS Matte does not require a hardened nozzle. A standard brass nozzle handles it without unusual wear.

Can you acetone smooth ABS Matte?

You can, but it defeats the point. Acetone vapour works by melting the outer surface of the print, and a melted surface re-forms glossy, which removes the matte texture you bought the filament for. If you want a high gloss finish, print in standard ABS or ABS Pro and smooth that instead. Choose ABS Matte when you want the part to look finished straight off the printer.

Does ABS Matte show fingerprints or scuffs?

More than a gloss finish does, and it is most noticeable in black. Matte surfaces hold skin oils, and a scuff burnishes the texture so the damage shows up as a shinier patch rather than a scratch. Handle finished parts with clean hands, and for anything that will be handled constantly, white hides marks better than black.
