Why Choose PET-CF?
This gives you carbon fibre stiffness and heat resistance without the printing headaches of nylon or polycarbonate.
- Higher heat resistance than PETG, parts stay rigid where PETG softens or creeps
- Carbon fibre stiffness without nylon's moisture sensitivity, easier to store and print
- Low shrinkage and warping for accurate, repeatable functional parts
- Matte finish that hides layer lines for a professional, moulded look
PET-CF vs PETG, Nylon and PC
Choose PET-CF over PETG or PETG-CF when parts need to stay rigid and hold tolerances under load or heat. PETG softens and creeps at temperatures PET-CF shrugs off, making it the better choice for automotive interiors, printer parts, and anything left in a hot car or shed.
Choose PET-CF over PA-CF (nylon) when you want carbon fibre stiffness without nylon's moisture problems. Nylon absorbs water from the air, causing swelling and print quality issues. PET absorbs very little, so parts stay stable and the filament is easier to store in humid Australian conditions.
Choose PET-CF over PC when you do not need PC's extreme heat and impact resistance. PC requires very high temperatures and an enclosure to print reliably, PET-CF prints on open frame machines with far less warping.
PET-CF vs PET-HTCF
Both use the same carbon fibre reinforced PET approach, the difference is heat tolerance. PET-HTCF uses a higher temperature PET base, giving it more headroom for parts that will sit somewhere genuinely hot. If your part will not see elevated temperatures, standard PET-CF covers the same stiffness and dimensional stability at a lower cost.
Printer Compatibility and Nozzle Wear
Both spools are 1.75mm and run on open frame or enclosed printers, including Bambu Lab, Prusa, Creality and Ender series machines, no enclosure required. A hardened steel nozzle is recommended for both, the carbon fibre content will wear down a standard brass nozzle.
Best Uses and More Material Options
Both work well for brackets and mounts, jigs and fixtures, drone frames, automotive and motorcycle components, camera rigs, 3D printer upgrades and end use mechanical parts. If a PETG part has ever flexed, sagged or deformed in the heat, PET-CF is the direct upgrade.
