If you are deciding between materials, here is the honest comparison:

  • Standard PLA is easier to print but will not take heat or impact anywhere near as well

Printer Compatibility and Settings

Our 1.75mm ABS Pro works best on enclosed FDM printers, including Bambu Lab, Prusa, Creality and other professional systems. Use a heated bed set between 90°C and 110°C, and keep the enclosure closed to maintain a stable ambient temperature. This is standard ABS printing practice, nothing extra required for the Pro formulation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ABS Pro stronger than standard ABS?

Yes. ABS Pro is an upgraded ABS formulation with better impact resistance and improved dimensional stability, so parts hold their shape more reliably under load. It prints on the same settings as regular ABS, so the improvement costs you nothing in print difficulty.

Is ABS Pro the same as ABS+?

Yes, ABS Pro is the same class of material that is sold elsewhere as ABS+. It is standard ABS with an upgraded formulation, giving better impact resistance and dimensional stability, while still printing on the same settings as regular ABS.

Does ABS Pro still need an enclosure?

Strongly recommended, and the upgraded formulation does not remove the need for one. ABS Pro warps less than plain ABS, so small parts of roughly 50mm or less will often print on an open machine if you block every draught and turn the part cooling fan off. Anything large, flat, or with wide square corners still needs a warm, still chamber to avoid lifting.

What temperature does ABS Pro print at?

Nozzle 230 to 250°C, bed 90 to 110°C, with the part cooling fan off or very low. A hardened nozzle is not required because ABS Pro is not abrasive. Start in the middle of both ranges, then raise the nozzle temperature if you see layers separating on tall parts.

Why is my ABS Pro warping or lifting off the bed?

Almost always chamber temperature or a draught. Work through it in this order: bed at 90 to 110°C, part cooling fan off, enclosure closed and left closed for the whole print, a brim on any part with sharp corners, and a bed wiped with isopropyl alcohol so it is free of oils and fingerprints. Opening the door partway through is the single most common cause of a part splitting halfway up.

Does ABS Pro smell more than standard ABS?

No, it smells the same. ABS Pro uses the same base polymer, so it gives off the same warm-plastic odour along with styrene and ultrafine particles while printing. Print it in a well ventilated space: an enclosed printer with a carbon filter, a garage, or a room you can air out afterwards. If you cannot ventilate properly, PLA Pro or PETG will handle most of the same jobs without the fumes.

Does ABS Pro need drying?

If the spool has been open for a while, yes. Dry it at 70 to 80°C for 4 to 6 hours. Wet ABS pops and crackles at the nozzle, strings between parts, and gives you weak, brittle layers. Storing it in a sealed box with desiccant between prints avoids most of the problem.

Will an ABS Pro part survive in an Australian car in summer?

Yes, and this is one of the jobs it is genuinely good at. A car parked in the Australian sun regularly pushes dashboard surfaces past 80°C, well beyond the point where PLA starts to soften and droop at around 60°C. ABS Pro holds its shape up to roughly 100°C, so phone mounts, dash brackets and boot organisers keep their geometry through summer. If the part also sits in direct sunlight year round, choose ASA instead, as it resists UV yellowing better.

Is ABS Pro or ASA better for outdoor parts?

ASA is the better choice outdoors. The two are close on strength and heat resistance, so UV exposure is the deciding factor: ASA resists yellowing and surface chalking, which makes it right for garden fittings, roof mounts and exterior signage. ABS Pro is the better pick for indoor, under-bonnet, workshop and enclosure work, where UV is not a factor.
