Why Choose PLA Aero (PLA-LW)?
This is not a general purpose PLA swap, it is a specific tool for a specific job. When the part you are printing needs to be as light as possible, PLA Aero cuts real weight without the fiddly setup that lightweight PLA is known for.
- Pre-foamed during manufacture, so there is no foaming temperature to chase
- Around 40% lighter than standard PLA at the recommended 0.6 flow ratio
- Weight reduction comes from the material itself, not thinner walls or lower infill
- Holds strength equivalent to standard PLA at the recommended settings
- The foamed texture also helps soften visible layer lines
- Six colours to choose from, so the weight saving does not mean giving up on finish
What Prints Suit PLA Aero Best?
PLA Aero is a genuinely use case specific filament, it earns its keep wherever weight is the priority:
- RC aircraft and drone parts
- Model making where every gram counts
- Cosplay props that need to stay light to wear
- Large prints where standard PLA would end up too heavy
For everyday functional parts where weight is not the main concern, a standard PLA Pro will do the job just as well.
Print Settings: Do Not Run It Hot
This is where PLA Aero differs from every other lightweight PLA, and it is worth reading before your first print. Because the foaming is already complete, raising the nozzle temperature will not increase foaming. Extra heat only degrades print quality and reduces strength.
- Nozzle temperature: 220 to 225°C
- Flow ratio: 0.6
- If you have used temperature activated lightweight PLA before, running this at around 250°C is the single most common cause of poor results
- Adjustment runs downward only, lowering the temperature reduces foaming if you want to fine tune density
Printer Compatibility
Our 1.75mm PLA Aero runs on any FDM printer, including Bambu Lab, Prusa, Creality and Anycubic machines. Because it prints at standard PLA temperatures, there is no high temperature hot end requirement and no enclosure needed.
