Printer Compatibility and Nozzle Wear

Our 1.75mm ABS-CFRP-CF works best on enclosed FDM printers with a heated bed set between 90°C and 110°C, including Bambu Lab, Prusa, Creality and other systems built for engineering filaments.

One thing to plan for: the carbon fibre core is abrasive, the same as any carbon fibre filament. A hardened nozzle is not optional here, a standard brass nozzle will wear down quickly.

What does CFRP mean in ABS-CFRP-CF?

CFRP stands for carbon fibre reinforced polymer. ABS-CFRP-CF is a co-extruded filament: a carbon fibre reinforced core wrapped in an ABS outer layer. Most carbon fibre filaments mix chopped fibre straight through the plastic instead, so the name is there to tell you this one is built differently.

Is ABS CF stiffer than ABS Pro?

Yes. The carbon fibre reinforced core is what you are paying for, and it gives noticeably more rigidity and dimensional stability than standard ABS or ABS Pro. Choose ABS CF when a part would otherwise flex under load and needs to hold its shape: brackets, jigs, fixtures and structural components.

Does ABS CF need a hardened nozzle?

Yes, and it is not optional. The carbon fibre core is abrasive in the same way any carbon fibre filament is, and a standard brass nozzle will wear down quickly. Fit a hardened steel nozzle before you start printing it.

What nozzle size does ABS CF need?

0.4mm can work, but we generally recommend 0.6mm or larger to avoid potential issues. The wider bore gives the reinforced core more room to flow and reduces the chance of a partial clog developing partway through a long print.

What temperature does ABS CF print at?

Nozzle 240 to 260°C, bed 90 to 100°C, printed in an enclosure with the part cooling fan off or very low. Note that it sits between ABS Pro at 230 to 250°C and ABS Matte at 250 to 270°C, so check your profile rather than assuming one ABS setting covers all three.

Does ABS CF warp less than standard ABS?

Yes. The carbon fibre reinforced core reduces warping and shrinkage compared with standard ABS, which is one of the practical reasons to choose it for large flat parts. It still needs an enclosure, though. Less warping is not a substitute for a stable chamber temperature.

Why is ABS CF smoother than other carbon fibre filaments?

Because the fibre is not exposed at the surface. Most carbon fibre filaments blend chopped fibre through the entire strand, which leaves a rough, fibrous texture. ABS-CFRP-CF wraps the reinforced core in an ABS outer layer, so the surface you see and touch is ABS, giving a cleaner matte finish than a fully loaded CF blend.

Is ABS CF electrically conductive?

No. Carbon fibre conducts electricity as a raw material, but here it sits in a core wrapped in an ABS outer layer, and ABS is an insulator. Do not rely on ABS CF parts for grounding or static dissipation. If you need ESD control, use our ESD filament instead.
