SanDisk Extreme PRO microSD Card - V30 U3 UHS-I
SanDisk Extreme PRO microSD Card - V30 U3 UHS-I
The SanDisk Extreme PRO microSD card is the fast end of the range, rated V30 and U3 for sustained write speed, available here from 32GB to 256GB. Built for 4K video capture and burst photography, where the card has to keep writing without dropping frames.
Extreme PRO or Ultra? Read This First
Being straight with you: if this card is going in a 3D printer, you almost certainly do not need it. A printer reads a sliced file sequentially, once, at the start of a job. It never asks the card for sustained write performance, which is the entire thing you are paying extra for here. Our SanDisk Ultra does that job just as reliably for less money.
Extreme PRO earns its price when something is writing hard and continuously:
- Recording 4K or high-bitrate video on an action camera or drone
- Burst shooting on a camera, where a slow card stalls the buffer
- Running an operating system from the card on a single-board computer
- Long timelapse capture where frames are written continuously for hours
What V30 and U3 Actually Mean
Both describe a guaranteed minimum sustained write speed of 30MB per second. U3 is the UHS speed class, V30 is the video speed class, and in practice they promise the same floor. That floor is what matters for video: a card can advertise a high peak read speed and still drop frames if its sustained write rate sags. This is the specification worth paying for, and the one the Ultra does not carry.
Choosing a Capacity
- 32GB for print files or light camera use. Note this is the one capacity in the range rated A1 rather than A2
- 64GB and 128GB for regular 4K recording or timelapse work
- 256GB for long shoots where swapping cards mid-session is not practical
A Note on Formatting
Cards of 64GB and above are microSDXC and ship formatted exFAT, while many 3D printers expect FAT32. If a large card is not recognised straight out of the packet, reformatting to FAT32 is almost always the fix rather than a fault with the card. The 32GB is microSDHC and already arrives FAT32.

Compatibility
Works in any device with a microSD slot: action cameras, drones, DSLRs, handheld consoles, single-board computers and 3D printers. To actually reach V30 speeds the host device needs to support UHS-I, though the card stays backward compatible with older hardware at reduced speed. Check your device manual for its maximum supported capacity.
