What Is PET-CF?

PET-CF combines a PET base polymer — the stiffer, more heat-resistant parent material of PETG — with chopped carbon fibre. On its own, PET is difficult to print; the carbon fibre stabilises it, controls shrinkage, and adds significant rigidity. The result is an engineering filament that prints as easily as PETG but performs closer to a true technical material, with a heat resistance and stiffness standard PETG can't match.

PET-CF vs PETG, Nylon and Polycarbonate

Choose PET-CF over PETG or PETG-CF when parts need to stay rigid and hold tolerances under load or heat — PETG softens and creeps at temperatures PET-CF shrugs off, making PET-CF the better choice for automotive interiors, printer parts, and anything left in a hot car or shed.

Choose PET-CF over PA-CF (nylon) when you want carbon-fibre stiffness without nylon's moisture problems. Nylon absorbs water from the air, causing swelling, softening, and print quality issues; PET absorbs very little, so parts stay stable and the filament is far easier to store and print — a real advantage in humid Australian conditions. Reach for nylon only when impact toughness or wear resistance matters more than rigidity.

Choose PET-CF over PC (polycarbonate) when you don't need PC's extreme heat and impact resistance. PC requires very high temperatures and an enclosure to print reliably; PET-CF prints on open-frame machines with no enclosure and far less warping.

Why Choose PET CF?

  • Higher heat resistance than PETG — parts stay rigid where PETG softens or creeps
  • Carbon-fibre stiffness without nylon's moisture sensitivity — easier storage, drying, and printing
  • Excellent dimensional stability — low shrinkage and warp for accurate, repeatable functional parts
  • Technical matte finish that hides layer lines for a professional, moulded look
  • No enclosure required — prints reliably on open-frame machines (hardened nozzle required)

Best Uses

PET CF filament excels wherever rigidity, accuracy, and heat tolerance matter more than flexibility: brackets and mounts, jigs and fixtures, drone frames, automotive and motorcycle components, camera rigs, 3D printer upgrades, and end-use mechanical parts. If a PETG part has ever flexed, sagged, or deformed in the heat, PET-CF is the direct upgrade.
