This 3D print painting kit is a complete starter set for adding colour to your 3D printed models: 18 water-based pigments, a fine detail brush, a set of six flat brushes in graduated sizes, a ceramic-style mixing palette and a spray bottle, all in one box. Everything you need to go from a plain single-colour print to a hand-painted model, without hunting down supplies from three different hobby shops.

What's in the Box

  • 18 pigment jars covering a full mixing range: white through yellows, oranges, reds, browns, greens, blues, purple and black
  • 7 brushes: one fine detail brush for edges and small features, plus six flat brushes for base coats and larger surfaces
  • Flower mixing palette with wells for blending custom colours
  • Spray bottle for misting and thinning while you work

Painting 3D Prints: What Actually Works

Plastic is not paper. It does not absorb paint, so the technique that works is patience: thin coats built up in layers, letting each dry before the next. A few things we would tell any customer starting out:

  • Light prints take colour best. Paint over white, grey or natural filament and the colours stay true. Painting over dark filament needs a white base coat first
  • Matte surfaces grip better than glossy. Prints in matte PLA give the paint more to hold onto than silk or glossy finishes. A light scuff sand helps on smooth prints
  • Water-based means forgiving. Mistakes wipe off before they dry, brushes clean up in the sink, and there are no solvent fumes, which makes this a good option for painting with kids
  • Seal anything that gets handled. For display pieces the paint is fine as is, but models that get picked up regularly last longer with a clear acrylic sealer over the top

Good First Projects

Models with defined raised details are the easiest place to start, since the shapes guide your brush: figurines, dragons, garden ornaments, terrain pieces, plaques and signs with raised lettering. Flat single-surface models are actually harder to paint evenly, so save those for once you have the feel of it.

Need something to paint? Prints in matte PLA take these colours beautifully, and standard PLA in white or grey makes the perfect blank canvas. Ships fast from our Sydney warehouse with Australia-wide delivery.
